Behenyl Alcohol

INCI Behenyl Alcohol

Fatty Alcohol / Emollient Hydration & Barrier

What it is & what it does

Behenyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used as an emollient, thickener and structure builder.
WHAT IT IS: Behenyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used as an emollient, thickener and structure builder.

HOW IT WORKS: It softens skin and helps creams form a more protective, less runny texture. Because it is a fatty alcohol, it is not equivalent to drying ethanol-type alcohol.

WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Emollients soften dry or rough-feeling skin by improving the surface lipid phase and how the formula spreads. Some also form a light film that helps limit moisture loss; this is different from humectants that bind water. The benefit depends on the final mix of oils, waxes, lipids and water-based moisturizers.

A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: A useful emollient can make a routine more comfortable without being a direct acne, pigmentation or wrinkle-treatment active.

Usage & cautions

Assess individual skin sensitivity and stop if irritation or persistent congestion develops.
