Caprylyl Methicone

INCI Caprylyl Methicone

Silicone Emollient Hydration & Barrier

What it is & what it does

Caprylyl Methicone is a lightweight volatile silicone used for slip and fast spread.
WHAT IT IS: Caprylyl Methicone is a lightweight volatile silicone used for slip and fast spread.

HOW IT WORKS: It helps sunscreen filters and oils spread more evenly, reduces tack and leaves a silky finish as part of it evaporates. It does not provide a biological treatment benefit.

WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Emollients soften dry or rough-feeling skin by improving the surface lipid phase and how the formula spreads. Some also form a light film that helps limit moisture loss; this is different from humectants that bind water. The benefit depends on the final mix of oils, waxes, lipids and water-based moisturizers.

A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: A useful emollient can make a routine more comfortable without being a direct acne, pigmentation or wrinkle-treatment active.

Usage & cautions

Assess individual skin sensitivity and stop if irritation or persistent congestion develops.
