What it is & what it does
Ceramide NS is a skin-barrier lipid that helps form the organised protective layers between cells in the outermost skin. In a suitable moisturizer, ceramides help support skin comfort and limit moisture loss.
The outermost skin barrier contains a carefully arranged mixture of ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids. Together, these lipids help keep water inside the skin and reduce exposure to external irritants. Ceramides are structural barrier components; they are not exfoliating acids or retinoids.
The name NS describes its chemistry: N means a non-hydroxy fatty-acid chain and S means a sphingosine base. It is a different ceramide class from NP, EOS and EOP, which is why a formula may use more than one type instead of treating all ceramides as interchangeable.
SESH Triple Dose includes Ceramide NS alongside other ceramides, cholesterol, humectants and emollients. This is a useful moisturizing and barrier-supporting design choice in a retinoid routine. However, seeing Ceramide NS on an ingredient list does not by itself establish a clinical barrier-repair result; concentration, lipid balance, formulation and individual tolerance all matter.
