What it is & what it does
Cetearyl Alcohol is a blend of fatty alcohols that acts as both an emollient and emulsion stabilizer.
WHAT IT IS: Cetearyl Alcohol is a blend of fatty alcohols that acts as both an emollient and emulsion stabilizer.
HOW IT WORKS: It softens skin, reduces rough feel and gives creams a richer, smoother structure. It is not the drying type of alcohol.
WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Emollients soften dry or rough-feeling skin by improving the surface lipid phase and how the formula spreads. Some also form a light film that helps limit moisture loss; this is different from humectants that bind water. The benefit depends on the final mix of oils, waxes, lipids and water-based moisturizers.
A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: A useful emollient can make a routine more comfortable without being a direct acne, pigmentation or wrinkle-treatment active.
