What it is & what it does

WHAT IT IS: Cocamidopropyl Betaine is an amphoteric surfactant widely used to make cleanser systems milder.
HOW IT WORKS: It boosts foam and cleansing while reducing the harshness of stronger anionic surfactants. Most allergy issues attributed to it are linked to manufacturing impurities such as DMAPA/amidoamine rather than the ideal purified ingredient itself.
WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Cleansing surfactants interact with oily residues and water to help remove soil, sebum and makeup when rinsed. Their concentration and combination determine foam, mildness and cleaning strength. Stronger cleansing is not automatically better for a sensitive skin barrier.
A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: The role of a cleansing ingredient in a rinse-off product is different from that of a leave-on active, so pore-clearing or anti-acne claims need separate evidence.
