Dimethicone

INCI Dimethicone

Silicone Emollient / Skin Protectant Hydration & Barrier

What it is & what it does

Dimethicone is a silicone emollient and skin protectant that forms a breathable-feeling film and reduces water loss.
WHAT IT IS: Dimethicone is a silicone emollient and skin protectant that forms a breathable-feeling film and reduces water loss.

HOW IT WORKS: It can improve softness, smooth the look of dehydration lines and support barrier comfort. Its benefit is real but mainly moisturization/protection, not collagen stimulation or pigmentation treatment.

WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Emollients soften dry or rough-feeling skin by improving the surface lipid phase and how the formula spreads. Some also form a light film that helps limit moisture loss; this is different from humectants that bind water. The benefit depends on the final mix of oils, waxes, lipids and water-based moisturizers.

A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: A useful emollient can make a routine more comfortable without being a direct acne, pigmentation or wrinkle-treatment active.

Usage & cautions

Assess individual skin sensitivity and stop if irritation or persistent congestion develops.
