What it is & what it does
Ethylhexyl Salicylate (Octisalate) is a UVB filter and oily solvent used in sunscreen systems.
WHAT IT IS: Ethylhexyl Salicylate, also called Octisalate, is an organic sunscreen filter with UVB-absorption activity.
HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: It is often used alongside other filters as part of a broader UV-protection system. It is not the same ingredient as salicylic acid used for exfoliation, despite the related chemical name, and it should not be described as an acne-treatment acid.
WHY THE FINISHED PRODUCT MATTERS: The presence of octisalate alone does not establish UVA coverage, an SPF rating or water resistance. No ingredient name alone establishes the measured clinical result of a complete formula.
