UV Filter UV Protection

What it is & what it does

Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M/MBBT) is a highly photostable broad-spectrum UV filter.
WHAT IT IS: MBBT, often called Bisoctrizole, is a particulate organic UV filter used in broad-spectrum sunscreen technology.

HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: Its particles can protect through absorption and some scattering of ultraviolet radiation. Performance depends on dispersion, particle characteristics, the accompanying filters and how the finished sunscreen is tested. It is inaccurate to classify it simply as an antioxidant botanical or to infer SPF from its concentration alone.

WHY THE FINISHED PRODUCT MATTERS: It can support both UVA and UVB coverage but needs the complete product to establish protection. No ingredient name alone establishes the measured clinical result of a complete formula.

Usage & cautions

Apply and reapply the completed sunscreen as labeled; UV protection cannot be deduced from one raw material.
