UVB Filter Active Ingredients

What it is & what it does

Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (Ensulizole) is a water-soluble UVB filter.
WHAT IT IS: Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, also called Ensulizole, is a water-soluble organic UVB sunscreen filter.

HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: Its water solubility can make it useful in lighter-feeling sunscreen formulas. It provides a limited wavelength contribution and generally needs partner filters for balanced UVA and UVB protection. It has no role as a salicylic-style exfoliating acid, despite containing the word acid.

WHY THE FINISHED PRODUCT MATTERS: Whether the sunscreen protects properly is answered by finished-formula testing, not the presence of ensulizole alone. No ingredient name alone establishes the measured clinical result of a complete formula.

Usage & cautions

Follow sunscreen labeling, apply adequate coverage and reapply when directed.
