What it is & what it does
Propylene Glycol is a classic humectant and solvent.
WHAT IT IS: Propylene Glycol is a small glycol used as a humectant, solvent and carrier in topical and cosmetic formulas.
HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: It binds water and helps dissolve other materials, influencing product spread and distribution. At some concentrations it can also influence skin delivery, but the effect depends on the whole vehicle and cannot be used to claim a specific depth for unrelated actives.
PRACTICAL ROLE: It should be described primarily as a practical moisturizing and formulation component, not a stand-alone anti-aging treatment. The actual finished-product role and supporting evidence govern the claims that can be made.
