What it is & what it does
Sodium Cocoamphoacetate is a mild amphoteric cleansing surfactant.
WHAT IT IS: Sodium Cocoamphoacetate is a mild amphoteric cleansing surfactant.
HOW IT WORKS: It removes oils and dirt while generally being gentler on skin than strong anionic surfactants. It is commonly used to improve mildness in face and body cleansers.
WHY ITS ROLE MATTERS: Cleansing surfactants interact with oily residues and water to help remove soil, sebum and makeup when rinsed. Their concentration and combination determine foam, mildness and cleaning strength. Stronger cleansing is not automatically better for a sensitive skin barrier.
A REALISTIC EXPECTATION: The role of a cleansing ingredient in a rinse-off product is different from that of a leave-on active, so pore-clearing or anti-acne claims need separate evidence.
