What it is & what it does
Titanium Dioxide is a mineral UV filter and white pigment.
WHAT IT IS: Titanium Dioxide is a mineral particulate ingredient used as a UV filter in some sunscreens and as a white pigment or opacifier in other cosmetics.
HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: In properly designed sunscreen products it contributes UV protection through wavelength-dependent absorption and scattering. Its formulation, particle coating, size and dispersion influence performance. Seeing Titanium Dioxide in a makeup product does not mean that product has a verified SPF.
WHY THE FINISHED PRODUCT MATTERS: The ingredient can have more than one function, so the claim must match what the finished product was designed and tested to do. No ingredient name alone establishes the measured clinical result of a complete formula.
