Zinc Oxide

INCI Zinc Oxide

Broad-Spectrum Mineral UV Filter UV Protection

What it is & what it does

Zinc Oxide is a mineral broad-spectrum UV filter with coverage extending through UVB and UVA.
WHAT IT IS: Zinc Oxide is a mineral UV filter used in sunscreen formulations to cover a broad range of UVA and UVB wavelengths.

HOW IT WORKS / EVIDENCE: Its protective performance depends on dispersion, coating, particle properties and the other ingredients present. It is also used for some skin-protectant purposes in products designed for that role, but a general cosmetic containing Zinc Oxide is not automatically a sunscreen or medical treatment.

WHY THE FINISHED PRODUCT MATTERS: Only the tested final product can establish SPF, broad-spectrum labeling and water resistance. No ingredient name alone establishes the measured clinical result of a complete formula.

Usage & cautions

Apply a properly labeled sunscreen generously and reapply as directed; avoid inhaling loose powder forms.
Information approach Consumer-friendly summaries are informed by established cosmetic ingredient references such as INCIDecoder and Paula’s Choice Ingredient Dictionary, while avoiding turning ingredient-level evidence into medical claims about the finished product.
