Learn the mechanism and apply it to a practical routine.

Locate the sebaceous gland and its connection to the follicle. Oil production differs from outer-skin water; shine and temporary dehydration can coexist.

Core idea

Foundation routine: in the morning, cleanse as needed, moisturize if needed and use appropriate broad-spectrum sunscreen for UV exposure. At night, remove makeup and sunscreen, cleanse gently and moisturize. A serum is optional for a defined goal. Bottle count is not routine quality.

Look beneath the label

Oily: choose a comfortable cleanser and an appropriate light moisturizer if tight. Dry: use gentler cleansing and a richer moisturizer as tolerated. Combination: adjust moisturizer amounts by zone. Reactive skin: simplify and limit likely irritants. These are starting points, not universal prescriptions.

Apply what you learned

For acne, select one appropriate treatment once the lesion pattern is clear. For marks, prioritize UV protection and relevant actives. For irritation, simplify first. Track results over weeks and change one step rather than four at a time.

Find the stratum corneum at the top and cell renewal below. This is thick skin, such as a palm; its clear lucidum layer is absent from facial skin.

Four starting patterns, not rigid rules

Oily: comfortable cleansing, lightweight moisturizer as needed and SPF. Dry: gentle cleansing and a richer moisturizer when useful, plus SPF. Combination: adjust the amount used on cheeks versus T-zone. Reactive or irritated: simplify temporarily and avoid known irritants. Each is a starting framework, not a prescription.

How to add a targeted step

After a stable, comfortable foundation, choose one goal such as comedones or post-acne marks. Add one appropriately directed product and track the result and any irritation. If the existing routine works, it need not grow. Consistency with a simple system can be more valuable than many products whose individual effects cannot be interpreted.
