Why acne happens

Learn the mechanism and apply it to a practical routine.
Locate the sebaceous gland and its connection to the follicle. Oil production differs from outer-skin water; shine and temporary dehydration can coexist.

Acne can involve follicular plugging, sebum, Cutibacterium acnes and inflammation. The balance differs between people. One food is rarely a complete explanation, and more oil does not mean washing five times a day is the answer.
Look beneath the label
Hormones, genetics, certain medications, friction and some products can contribute. Picking lesions increases irritation and the chance of post-inflammatory marks. Distinguish primarily clogged comedones from inflammatory or deep lesions before choosing treatment.
Apply what you learned
Build a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen routine, then add one concern-directed treatment and review results over weeks. Benzoyl peroxide, adapalene and azelaic acid are established options, but availability and instructions vary. Deep painful acne or scarring calls for a dermatologist.

Follicular plugging, sebum, the follicular microbial environment and inflammation can all interact. Hormones, genetics, friction and certain medicines may modify the process. A cleanser mainly removes surface material and does not necessarily address every driver of acne inflammation.
How to measure useful progress
Track new lesions per week, painful lesions and whether new scars or marks appear. Photographs in similar light can help. Appropriate treatment may take weeks rather than days; increasing pain or scarring merits earlier assessment. Burning the skin is not a measure of success.
